Cold Fusion

The science of Cold Fusion is to produce heat by placing nickel powder of very small particle size nano-meters to micro-meters in a pressurized hydrogen environment and catalysts that enhance heat to approximately 450 – 500 Celsius when an exothermal nuclear reaction may start taking place. The purpose is to create a reaction that releases a large amount of energy while consuming very few grams of light hydrogen and nickel powder of only two isotopes of nickel 62Ni and 64Ni. One benefit is that one gram of nickel can produce as much energy as 500 barrels of oil.

Andrea Rossi is an Italian physicist, entrepreneur and creator of the cold fusion device Energy Catalyzer, which is a device capable of producing more than 10 kilowatts of heat power, while only consuming a fraction of energy. Andrea Rossi was born in Milan Italy 3 June 1950 and credited with several patents in chemistry and physics. His studies at the University of Milan earned distinction with a dissertation on Albert Einstein’s Theory of Relativity and its relationship with Husserl’s Phenomenology. At present, he serves as President and Founder of Leonardo Technologies Incorporated of Bedford, New Hampshire in the US.

Engineer Andrea Rossi and Professor Sergio Focardi of the University of Bologna announced on 14 January 2011, the Worlds’ first public demonstration of a nickel-hydrogen fusion reactor capable of producing a few kilowatts of thermal energy. When the hydrogen is heated at a given temperature with the input power of a simple resistor of approximately 1000 watts and the ignition temperature is reached, the energy production process starts when the hydrogen atoms penetrate into the nickel and transform it into copper. At its peak, the 1 megawatt e-cat cold fusion device Energy Catalyzer generated 15,000 watts with just 400 watts input energy. In a five hour sustained test, which produced 479 kilowatts refers to heat and not electricity; thus, no cold fusion device anywhere has actually generated electricity to date. In another test, the same output of 450 to 500 Celsius starts a reaction achieving about 80 watts of continual input. One hundred grams of nickel powder may power the device up to six months, since only a small amount of nickel reacts with the hydrogen so that 90% of the nickel remains and can be extracted, re-processed and re-used as fuel. This work has been replicated.
Ampenergo,E-cat,Focardi,Invest,News,Rossi 28 October 2011.

This evolving science seems to be technologically and ecologically green friendly, since it does not utilize any radioactive elements, does not produce any radioactive waste, and does not emit greenhouse gases or particulate matter that may cause environmental problems.

Could this Low Energy Nuclear Reaction be the start of a new revolution in a new science leading to Cold Fusion energy that might produce enough heat to provide the energy necessary to generate power for transportation and electricity.
